A-Z Blog Challenge: Day 19:Residual Income Ideas you can start this weekend.



Here’s a blog post that I wanted to share with you as some of your write back to say you need to get some cash flow coming in before you start and implement your own online business.
Instead of giving you homemade income ideas, I thought I will up the ante and give you a few ideas you can start this weekend that will bring in residual income that you can start from home with little to low -cost.

1 Start a home or office cleaning business on the side
What : You can start a home based cleaning company for homes or offices around your neighbourhood
What you need: Basic cleaning supplies, phone or Skype and a telephone list.
Where to get customers:
You can begin getting customers by calling your neighbourhood and posting flyers advertising your services. The most effective way is to go door-to-door to solicit for business. You can start a home based cleaning company for homes around your area very quickly. Another way is to insert flyers or promote with ads in community newspapers around your neigh hood.
If you are trying to start a cleaning business that serves the offices around your neighbourhood, you can simply call the office and ask for the person who is in-charge of hiring contractors for this service.
The way to get residual income from this service is to sell long term contracts of three month contracts, six month contracts and even an annual contract.

2 Start a window/car washing business


What: You will be washing windows or cars for others.

What you need: cleaning equipment for windows and cleaning and waxing equipment for cars. If you are cleaning external windows for buildings, you might also need to invest in a Gondola.

Where to get customers: This is a fast business that you can get started quite quickly. You can locate business or homes in your areas and ask them if they need their windows washed. You can offer a special low-cost one time service of $20 for window washing. While you are there, you can also help them clean up other areas such as the window ledge or maybe take out the trash on your way out. Thereafter, you can negotiate for a long time contract and encourage them to purchase 3 or 6 time window washing service. The same applies for car washing but you can negotiate with auto dealers to refer clients to you in exchange for a referral fee. Alternatively, you can offer these packages to auto dealers who can offer this as a gift for their clients who purchased cars from them.

3 Sell insurance online
This is an effective residual income opportunity for those who have the necessary knowledge or who are inclined to learn about the insurance industry. Most people now search for insurance plans online and this is an opportunity for you to promote insurance online.


What you will need: Content, lots of relevant content that is beneficial to readers. Online calculators and a website for customers to contact you. The best insurance to sell online include travel insurance, auto insurance as these are often renewed on an annual basis and some insurance companies offer you a residual sum for every policy that is renewed. So the longer you stay in this industry, the easy works gets as you progress.

Where to get customers: You can get customers through online content or do joint ventures with related websites such as travel websites.

4 Start a membership site



What: Start a membership site around your expertise or hobby.

What you will need: Membership site software.
If you have a particular expertise in a certain area, you can put your expertise in the forms of an ebook, videos and audios and put it in a membership site that is available for purchase through a subscription. I have seen others create membership site sin online marketing. You can check out one in which I have subscribed to that teaches you how to attract traffic to your website online. Other hobby websites that do well include membership sites with information on taxidermy, scrapbooking etc.

A-Z Blog Challenge Day 18:Quick Response to Your Affiliate Campaigns




“How Do I Get Others to Click thru my affiliate links and buy now?”

This is one of the questions that is asked often by subscribers and people who attend seminars on internet marketing.

There are several ways to encourage quick response to your affiliate offers and in this blog, I will share with you several time tested strategies for your prospects to click thru your affiliate links and make the sale process faster so more money gets into your pocket faster.


1Give tiered bonuses

In order to encourage people to ‘Buy Now’, you can give out tiered bonuses, that is bonuses are given for the first 10, 20 or 50 people who click on your link and make their purchases.

This is an effective strategy that used by many effective marketers especially when they have a major product launch.

I have seen marketers give out another product with their new product purchase for the first 100 who purchase and other gifts and bonuses are available to the next 100 to 500 people who purchase.

This works especially well for complementary products. That is if you have an eBook that teaches people on how to build a list, you can offer bonuses such as free squeeze page templates or discounts off an autoresponder subscription. An autoresponder that I personally use is It provides a low-cost and effective solution for you to keep in regular contact with your subscribers.

2Borrow ideas from direct-response TV.

This is a idea you can borrow from direct response TV. If you were to watch the late night direct response TV ads, you will notice that free gifts are given to people who respond now. In addition, they also have a limited time offer that is an upsell from the basic product they are promoting.

Say they are promoting a juicer and for a limited time only, the first 20 callers will also get the slicer for $xxx amount of money.

You can also offer a payment plan for big ticket items as in direct response TV when they often say as low as $9.90 per month for 3 months. So if you were to split up the payments, you can get people to act quite quickly on the offer.

3Have a time-limited offer

You can have a dime sale or fire sale for the first 72 hours of your product launch or affiliate offer. Very often, the most sales is usually made within 24 hours of a major product launch and it is important to stimulate as much as possible in the initial 24 to 72 hours.

That is why marketers will have a limited time offer of a special introductory price only for the next 72 hours or less.

A-Z Blog Challenge: Day 9 : Just Create a Simple Business Model


Extending from yesterday A-Z Challenge: Day 8 : What I would Do If I Had To Start All Over Again with 170 Dollars, today, I will be sharing with you an important lesson that I have learned in my online affiliate business.

Understanding and applying this lesson was responsible for scaling my online business a further 20 – 30 percent.

JJot Down A Simple Business Model


A business model simply put is how a business makes money.

So if you are starting an affiliate business, you need to know where you are making the money from.

For instance, I can have an affiliate business in the travel niche and my business model can look something like this

  • Affiliate sales from travel packages bought through web site
  • Travel related accessories sold on website
  • Affiliate sales from Amazon

So for a simple travel related site, you can have three or more revenue models that you can rely on to bring in the income.

I have known bloggers who start a blog on their area of interest but have no idea how to monetize them eventually. Let’s take the example of a food blog.

In order to monetize a food blog, you need quality content that is written in a unique angle.

In addition, here’s ways to monetize your blog

  • Affiliate sales from recipes books
  • Affiliate sales from grocery stores, particularly if you are selling Asian or ethnic food that is difficult to find.
  • Advertising from restaurants or travel agencies
  • Selling of weight -loss products

Day 6: A-Z Blog Challenge: Final Decision in Niche Selection





Today’s post puts the finishing touches on niche selection in affiliate marketing.

We started the topic on niche selection as early as Day 3 on Choosing a profitable niche.

If you have missed it, you can read about it here.


In Day 4, we shared about refining and defining your niche and hopefully by now, you have narrowed your selection to the Top 3 niche markets by now.

So today, we are going to put everything together for your final decision on niche selection.

Figure out the sub-markets.

By now, you should have a list of the top 3 niches you want to focus on. Take one niche and list down the number of sub-markets there are within the niche.

Here’s an example, within the personal finance niche, there are sub-niches such as budgeting, investing, career advice, loans etc. So brainstorm as many sub-niches as you can think of within your chosen niche.


Search for affiliate programmes within your niche

In step 2 today, search for all the related affiliate programmes within your niche and sub-niches. Put things in a spread sheet .

  • List down the name  of the affiliate programme
  • List down affiliate networks
  • Sales Page URL
  • Affiliate tools URL
  • Payout
  • Remarks like gravity, number of affiliate promoting the programme etc etc…

Look for active members

A good affiliate programme should have many people talking about it. You can  do a google search, or look in related forums about this programme. Search for related

  • Blogs about the topic or affiliate programme
  • Forums
  • Magazines
  • Web pages
  • Squidoo lens


Are members within the niche buying information?

In order for the niche to be profitable, you must have members who are comfortable buying information online. For example, in the personal finance niche of investing, members are actively buying information on investment research, investing tools, software and eBook on how to build a portfolio. This is a good market to get into as members are already used to buying info-products online.

Find ways you can differentiate yourself from the competition and this may be the niche you can conquer with your unique insights into marketing products in the niche.

Carve Out Your Own Niche in Affiliate Marketing







“Do I choose the dating niche or the health niche?”

This is a question I am asked often by my subscribers in my e-zine.


They have clearly understood the importance of niche marketing

in my daily writings.

When it comes to affiliate marketing, you cannot be all things to all people.

You need something to help you stand out.

Here’s a personal example, I like to travel and source out value deals that is luxury vacations at a fraction of the price.

However, this niche is competitive and there are many big players out there.

What I focused on when it comes to marketing this niche is to focus on seniors and members of the AARP and tailor my marketing towards this group. I will do joint-venture deals with newsletter editors that cater to the Silver market. So instead of being a small fish in a big pond, I dominate this niche by finding a smaller pond and becoming a ‘big fish’. That is by becoming known in my niche for this specialisation I further niche it down to cruise vacations for seniors complete with tailor-made tours to places of their destinations.

Now what is Niche marketing?

What is Niche Marketing?

Niche marketing refers to tailoring your marketing to a small population that has a specific problem, need or special interest.

So instead of focussing on large populations of people, you laser-focus on a group that shares common characteristics.

By specializing, you will not easily be crushed by big marketers with big budgets to spend on advertising and marketing. What you are doing is to try and build a reputation as a recognized expert in a narrow and tightly focussed market.

Your aim in niche marketing is to be totally immersed in the market. You need to know the major events happening; the problems faced by the people in this market, their interest, needs and wants.

This will eventually allow you to be open to ‘opportunities’ that are not available to the person who is not immersed in your niche.

Take this 30-Day A-Z Blogging Challenge on Affiliate Marketing for example.

I know that there is simply too much information on this topic online and my aim is

to help someone who is just getting started in affiliate marketing, a step-by-step blueprint to get started in the next 30-days.

This is a niche I believe very few people are in as newbie’s need a lot of ‘hand-holding’ at the beginning.

So the next question on your mind may be “So …

How to Find the Right Niche?

There are Four Steps I recommend people start with to find their niche

Step 1: Brainstorm

This is a ‘brain-dump’. That is you list the topics that you are interested in without censoring anything.

Mind-mapping is one of the great ways to do this as it allows you to visualize the connections quite quickly. My favourite tool for this is  This is a free tool and does not have any affiliate links.

Step 2: Identify Your Interest and Passions

Next you narrow down the list of topic that you have created from Step 1 based on your interest and passions.

Try to narrow down to 10 topics based on your interests and passions.

You can also do an online keyword search using either Google Keyword Toolbar at

==> to find keywords or problems people have. you can also estimate demand by checking on the number of searches for that topic per month.

Step 3: What Professional Skills Do you Possess?

You list down the professional skills you have in this step. For instance, if you are a teacher, you have professional skills in creating educational materials, communication skills and management skills as it is not easy to manage a group of ‘high-energy’ youngsters and get them to learn the things you are teaching. Or if you are a professional tele-marketer, you can also list that down as a skill.

Step 4: Is there something you want to learn?

Is there any topic in particular you like to learn this year? If there is a subject you are passionate about learning or show some keen interest in, you can list it down here as well.

Another way to narrow down your niche is to go after the ‘Big 3’ niches and niche down further from there.

The 3 Big Niches are

  • Wealth: This includes make-money-online niche, starting a home-based business niche etc etc.
  • Health: Weight -loss, muscle building and detoxification are all great niches.
  • Relationships: Online dating is a great niche that is now getting very competitive. Other niches you can explore include “How to get back your ex” etc etc etc.

By focusing on the Big 3, you can further niche down from here to target for instance “Weight-loss for post pregnancy”.

Why are they great niches? These 3 are related to the most basic and fundamental human emotions.
