Readers are the life-blog of every blog. Every blog creator is concerned with increasing the readership of their blog.

 

Here’s a few simple ways and low-cost ways to generate more readers for your blog

 

Join a Blog Contest

Joining a blog contest gives you exposure to other similar bloggers writing on a similar topic. By joining a blog contest, you not only generate greater traffic from all the rest of the contestants, you also increase your blog posting schedule and in this increase in content posting will keep readers coming back for more.

The organizer of the contest will also drive traffic to your blog as they try to promote their blog contest. This shared community will drive more readers to your blog

Join a Blog Carnival

This is one of the earliest methods I used to increase readerships of my blog. In just 30 days, I have increased the number of readers from a paltry 56 to 170 readers. This represents a growth rate of 200% growth in just 30 days.

I benefitted by gaining momentum to get my blog going at the start and benefit from the additional traffic from the blog linking to one another.

Register with Search Engines like Tech.norati

When you have written a new blog post, you can submit your new post url to websites like Techno.rati  or red.it. This immediately alerts readers who have subscribed to the topic you have written on that there is new content for them to check-out. Both websites are high traffic websites and you can benefit from this additional boost of traffic.

Repurpose your content

When you have a new blog post, you can generate additional traffic by repurposing your content. You can turn the same blog post into an audio pdf and submit it to podcasting sites, you can add graphics to your blog post and turn them into slides and post on slide.makr. Alternatively, you can turn the key picture on your blog post and post it to Pinterest to generate additional traffic from your Pinterest account which brings us to the next topic on leveraging on social media.

Leverage on Social Media

You can leverage on social media by tweeting a link from you blog url to your followers on your twitter account and encouraging others to retweet your post. There are others who have driven traffic to their blogs by posting updates on Facebook. If you find it hard to manage so many different posting on different social media platforms, you can control this by getting Hootsuite which allows you to get updates from all your social media accounts all in one place.

Guest Blog

This is one of the recommended ways to drive traffic to your blog. You can guest post for related blogs especially blogs that have a lot of readers. If you are a regular reader of a particular blog and you find an angle which benefits the readers of the blogs, you can write to the blog owner and propose a few article ideas. Not every blog owner is going to accept your articles but you can also guest post for similar blogs.

 

  • First research a list of related blogs
  • Compile a list of blog owners and their emails
  • Propose a few article ideas
  • Send email to the blog owners with a summary of your article ideas or the first paragraph of your article so they can get a peak of your writing style etc.

Write for related publications

The last tip is related to guest blogging but you are taking the strategy and trying it with offline publications. By submitting articles to print magazines or newsletters, it increases your credibility and helps you reach out to readers who do seldom go online to search for information. If you manage to have your article featured in recognized industry publication with a link to your blog, you can drive traffic from offline readers back to your blog.

I usually take October as a month of reflection.

During my travels this October, I begin thinking more seriously

about this blog and my accompanying online business.

I can sum up 3 ways most people can begin to start making online with

little to no investment of money.

  1. Sell a product or service

You can sell a product such as freebies you get by purchasing bundling deals from local stores or the super markets.

For instance, if you have been given a free mug with a purchase of a pack of toothpaste, you can sell the mug for some money via Craigslist or free bulletin boards. I have tried selling mugs, mugs bundled with small items such as stationery, or soap and bath salts to turn them into a min bath hamper. If you add in a little creativity to what you have, you can often sell it for more.

Alternatively, if you can provide a service such as house sitting or house painting, you can advertise these services online and make some extra cash online.I have a friend who does house painting on the side and pockets an extra $1200 per month or $300 per week.

  1. Sell other people’s product

You can sell other people’s products online as an affiliate.

If you have a blog, you can promote it on your blog if they are related to what your readers want.

You can also sell them via online bulletin boards, offline bulletin boards,classified ads and even promote to your list.

  1. Freelance writing

This is one of the best ways to get started earning an extra income online. There are 2 ways to earn money freelance writing.

A)Write for pay-per-view sites

These sites will pay you a percentage of the sales they received from advertising. That is there will be ads around your article on their website and if someone clicks on the ad, you get paid a percentage from 30 to 50% of the amount.

Why I Stopped Blogging and Why I will start again

One of the reasons I stopped blogging is because I find that updating my blog takes too much time and gets in the way of my travels and product development.

It is tedious to create a product while on the go and at the same time continue blogging.

I am now in the midst of creating a new product that will benefit people who are new to online business and would like to get started.

I have studied what other gurus are doing and gave serious thoughts as to why a lot of people fail to get started online.

Some of the key stumbling blocks they face is

To Succeed in Online Marketing or any other area, you’ve got to be Proactive.

In another 48 hours, I will be leaving Hong Kong and going back home to Singapore.

Well, Hong Kong is a truly inspiring city for me. The people are hard working, they work long and hard and of course very tourist friendly as most shops open till late and some are open for 24 hours.

There was a particular incident that stuck me and I felt I needed to share with you here.

“To succeed, you’ve got to be proactive!”

I was enjoying my dinner at Stanley one weekday evening. There weren’t many people there that night due to the races.Yes, Wednesday is Race day in Hong Kong and most people would be at the races.

This old man was an employees of one of the restaurants, he is one of the most proactive person when it comes to soliciting for business for his restaurant.

Here’s a picture of him working, you see him promoting his business in a very pro active manner. He approaches almost everyone who passes him and tries to get them into his restaurant.

This is the kind of action, you need to take if you ever want to succeed in your online business.

You need to think of ways to reach out to your customers, to reach out to them and let the, know of the solutions you have that can help them. Let your content be their solutions.

Its time to succeed online instead of fiddling around. Be proactive.

We were there for a couple of hours, the dinner was great and great value as it comes with wine, beer or other beverage all for only US$22 with a salad, main course and wine.So, the next time you are in Stanley, Hong Kong, be sure to check out this place.

Because he was so upbeat and proactive, we were secretly ‘rooting’ for him and happy each time, he filled a table.
